Controllers rewrite comments when the first sentence starts with weather, mood, or “as discussed.” A financial auditing app field is not a Slack thread. Use three lines: number, cause, next control.
Line one — the number with orientation
“Utilities +₩42m vs budget (7% above absolute gate).” Orientation tells the reader why the line appeared. Skip adjectives.
Line two — cause without theater
Name the driver and the evidence ID from the app: “Cold snap overtime at Plant B; work-order WO-18821; volume effect confirmed, rate flat.” If you cannot cite evidence, say “cause open—ops interview scheduled Wednesday” rather than inventing certainty.
Line three — the control move
“Accrual calendar adjusted for holiday week; owner: plant controller.” Board packs need an owner more than a promise.
Learners in the narrative studio practice this pattern until paste requires zero edits. It is dull on purpose—dull travels well.
